Utilities

From the basics like water and electricity to the cutting-edge technology like telecom and fiber optics, Gwinnett County not only meets but exceeds industrial, commercial and residential needs for utilities and infrastructure. Through careful planning and attention to area business needs, local governments and utility providers have anticipated demand and growth for the foreseeable future. Here, reliable service and competitive rates will help keep your business profitable.

Electricity

As one of the few states in the nation that allows competition between its electric power suppliers, Georgia offers attractive utility rates. Additionally, the power transmission and distribution system throughout Gwinnett provides for ample supply, high reliability and redundant service methods.

Natural Gas

The 1998 deregulation of the natural gas industry provides the opportunity to choose from several approved suppliers. Additionally, the municipalities of Lawrenceville and Sugar Hill offer their own natural gas services.

Water and Wastewater Treatment

The Department of Water Resources operates three wastewater treatment facilities. The largest facility is the F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center (60 MGD), located in northern Gwinnett near Buford. The Yellow River Water Reclamation Facility (22 MGD) is located in central Gwinnett near Lilburn. The Crooked Creek Water Reclamation Facility (16 MGD) is located in southwestern Gwinnett near Norcross. The three treatment facilities are currently permitted by EPD to return a total of 98 MGD of highly-treated effluent to waters in the County on a maximum monthly basis. Reclaimed water can be discharged to Lake Lanier, the Chattahoochee River, and the Yellow River. All three of the water reclamation facilities provide advanced treatment. Highly advanced technologies such as membrane filtration are used at the F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center and the Yellow River Water Reclamation Facility. These advanced processes produce a very high quality effluent which is returned to Lake Lanier to augment drinking water supplies or discharged to the Yellow or Chattahoochee Rivers.

Duluth, Lilburn and Snellville all use the county water system.
